Dear parishioners, dear friend,
With joy and gratitude in my heart, I extend to you my heartfelt greetings on the feast of Easter – the triumph of life over death, light over darkness, and hope over despair!
On that first Easter morning, as we read in the Gospel of John (John 20:1–9), Mary Magdalene comes to the tomb while it is still dark. Her heart is broken, her grief deep, and hope seems lost. But it is precisely in that moment of darkness and uncertainty that she becomes the first witness to the empty tomb. Jesus is no longer there – He is alive! That encounter with the Word who conquered death opens eyes and hearts. Faith is born in silence and in waiting. Easter does not happen in noise, but in a personal encounter with the Risen Christ.
Let me share a simple but powerful real-life story. An elderly man who had lost his son in a car accident used to sit quietly in church every day, not saying a word. When someone asked how he could still believe in God after such a loss, he answered: "I don't always understand God, but I can trust Him. Because my son's tomb is full, and His Son’s tomb is empty."That man did not find all the answers, but he found hope. And hope is what Easter gives to each of us.
In these times, when worries of daily life, illness, uncertainty, and many challenges can easily discourage us, Christ calls us not to seek the Living among the dead. And to root our faith not in feelings, but in His Word and promise.
My dear friends, may this Easter reignite in our hearts the faith that Christ is truly risen. May it fill us with a peace the world cannot give, and strengthen us to become people of the Resurrection – witnesses of hope, goodness, and light.
With this in mind, I wish you and your loved ones a joyful and blessed Easter! May the Risen Lord enter your homes and hearts, bringing comfort, strength, and the deep joy that only He can give.
Your pastor, Matija žugaj
